9 Sep 2007 - Victory for 1st XI

Cranmore 1st XI (250 for 8) beat Westonzoyland 1st XI (198 all out) by 52 runs.
Cranmore and Westonzoyland finally met at Lydford on Sunday for the much delayed plate final.
Having won the toss and elected to bat Cranmore lost early wickets with first Matt Dury (1) and then Phil Veal (15) falling to the bowling of C. Parr (2-50). The Cranmore middle order then staged a recovery with Nick Pang (34) Steve Allen (39) and Sam Laing (54) all posting significant scores. A steady stream of wickets from P. Dickens (2-59), S. Martin (2-43) and J. Coates (2-82) however, kept Westonzoyland in the game. After Cranmore skipper Dave Monk (23) had anchored the innings an onslaught from the Cranmore lower order boosted their total to a formidable 250 at the end of their 45 overs with Mike Pang (20) Alex Vaughn (26) and Andy Trott (16 no.) all adding quick runs.
In reply Westonzoyland got off to a fast start with 45 runs coming off the first six overs, largely thanks to J. Coates (33). Harry Keevil (1-46) eventually got a breakthrough for Cranmore, bowling I. Legg for 3 however Westonzoyland continued to score freely, with Coates and P. Dickens (26) helping them to 77 off the first 15 overs. An excellent spell from Alex Vaughn (4-49) then, removed the Westonzoyland top order and put Cranmore back in control of the game. S. Martin (34) and C. Parr (26) scored useful runs for Westonzoyland but, with wickets falling they were unable to score fast enough to overhaul the Cranmore total, despite a late flurry of boundaries from J. Gallagh (20). Nick Pang (2-46) bowled a good containing spell in the middle of the innings and, following his fast opening spell, Mike Pang (3-37) returned to blow away the tail. Cranmore finally sealed victory and the club?s second trophy of the season in the final over when McTravers (0) was bowled by Mike Pang with Westonzoyland 52 runs short on 198.
